Inside, they stomped their feet and blew on their hands.

Larry said to Mickey. “It shouldn’t take long to get enough off the rest of our roof to remove any danger of collapse, and then we’ll work on yours. I think the snow has stopped—it’s not filling up the tracks as fast.”

That reminded Frannie. “Weird thing this morning—when we were headed to the bathrooms, there were tracks coming up to the camper.”

“Yours from last night?” Jane Ann asked.

“No, there was only one set. And it was still snowing hard when we came back last night so they would have filled up.” Frannie leaned back against the couch and rubbed Dasher’s head. As she did so, she caught a look between Larry and Mickey.

“What?” She sat up straight. “What is it, Larry, that you don’t want to talk about?”

Larry sighed and leaned his elbows on his knees. “I didn’t want to scare you, but I guess it’s better that you know so you can be alert. Remember I mentioned last night that there was an old blanket on the bench in the men’s side?”

Frannie nodded.

“Well, it was gone this morning. I asked Mickey and he didn’t move it. Someone else is here.”

They sat silently for a few moments, each processing the implications of that information.

“Do you think someone was lost? But surely they would knock on the door or have seen us outside,” Jane Ann said.

“Maybe a kid? A runaway?” Frannie hugged the dog to her. “Someone who doesn’t want to be found?”

“The next time one of us gets Internet reception, check for local news to see if anyone’s missing,” Mickey said.

“Or escaped,” Frannie said.

Larry grimaced. “I doubt if it’s something like that.”

Frannie tilted her head. “Then why were you worried?”

“I’m not worried just about that—just the weather and the power and everything. That said, let’s go get the snow off the other camper and be done with that.”
